This work is about color…
I find great joy in playing with color, particularly the interplay between vivid, bright colors—the vibration that happens when two brilliant colors meet. I want to explore this, push this as far as I can. To this end, I use pure pigments whenever possible, and my palette includes many hand-made paints.
I have found the intense light and color in Hawai’i to be a constant inspiration. I am drawn to the lushness of the Hawaiian landscape—the shapes and colors of the leaves and fruits, the millions of greens, the brilliant light and deep soft shadows.
I have chosen to paint in oils because their of rich solid tones, their smell, texture and feel; I enjoy exploring the effects of glazing, and the ability to play with layers makes this a great medium for me.
Though I was born into a family of artists, it has taken me some time to come into my own as a painter. I studied art history and classical archaeology at UCLA, and have taken painting and drawing workshops whenever and wherever I could. It was not until moving to Hawai’i several years ago that I was able to devote my time and attention to oil painting, and I look forward to the process and the journey.
Enjoy the color!!
